Find Out if You're Eligible for CDT Certification

The eligibility requirements for the Certified Demolition Technician (CDT) certification are designed to ensure that candidates possess the foundational experience and knowledge necessary to succeed in a field-based certification. Demolition work is highly specialized, physically demanding, and safety critical. Therefore, individuals seeking certification must demonstrate real-world experience that reflects the day-to-day responsibilities and challenges of the job.

View the eligibility requirements here.

To be eligible to sit for the CDT exam, a candidate must possess:

  • 2 years of hands-on demolition experience
  • 10 Hour OSHA Construction
  • 2 Hour Awareness of Asbestos Training
  • 4 Hour Fall Protection/Prevention Course Training
  • First Aid/CPR AED Certification

The CDT is not an entry-level credential. It is intended for demolition workers and equipment operators who are already actively engaged in the field and can demonstrate:

  • Familiarity with demolition equipment, tools, and techniques

  • Experience recognizing and responding to hazards unique to demolition sites

  • An understanding of relevant safety standards, laws, and regulations

  • Proficiency in demolition-specific tasks such as selective removal, equipment operation, or site preparation

Requiring a minimum amount of verified field experience ensures that certificants are qualified to be assessed on their applied knowledge and practical decision-making. This protects the integrity of the certification, supports jobsite safety, and promotes the professionalism of the demolition workforce.

In short, the eligibility criteria are in place to confirm that applicants have had meaningful exposure to the work environment and are prepared to be evaluated against a standard of competence developed by industry experts.

*Candidates are required to submit documentation showing proof of education/training completed. Review of applications will be delayed if documentation is not submitted.
